The 2010 Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, has been held annually for over 40 years now. The first CES took place in New York City in 1967. This year's CES show has begun on January 7 and takes place in Las Vegas, as usual, where visitors are welcomed till January 10. The CES event appears to become more important every year. Although the digital camera has become quite common, the CES 2010 in Las Vegas shows that especially in this segment, where quality is an important factor for the user, a lot of innovation still takes place. During the upcoming days we will update the digital camera round-up list below, containing all new digital cameras announced during the CES 2010 show.

HTC Supersonic

There must be someone in that marketing department that had a side job next to their study that was solely comprised of inventing silly names? Well, that person is working for several different cell phone manufacturers or there are several people that meet that profile. Take for example the following rumor: the existence of the HTC Supersonic smartphone. Supersonic? I thought that that name had disappeared with the disappearance of the Concord flights! The HTC Supersonic is supposed to be the full successor of the HTC HD2 smartphone. Why not just call that smartphone the HTC HD3? We aren’t too sure yet if it will be called HTC Supersonic of HTC HD3.

Apple iPad

Apple introduces iPad, a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more. Apple iPad’s responsive high-resolution Multi-Touch display lets users physically interact with applications and content. Apple iPad is just 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook. Apple iPad includes 12 new innovative apps designed especially for the iPad, and will run almost all of the over 140,000 apps in the App Store. Apple iPad will be available in late March starting at the breakthrough price of just $499.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2

Panasonic introduces the new Lumix DMC-TS2, a successor to the first rugged digital camera designed for active outdoor use, the Lumix DMC-TS1. Featuring High Definition video recording capability, in the AVCHD Lite format, the new 14.1-megapixel Lumix TS2 further strengthens its toughness when compared to its predecessor and is waterproof to 33 feet (10m), shockproof to 10 feet (2m), freezeproof to 14° F (-10° C) and dustproof. With its enhanced toughness, The Panasonic Lumix TS2 features an airtight body protected against water immersion, dust and sand. The new model is waterproof to a depth of 33 feet and dustproof, which can be attributed to its rubber padding and reinforced glass and carbon inside the camera.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZR3

Panasonic announces the Lumix DMC-ZR3, a new fully featured digital camera complete with AVCHD Lite High Defintion (HD) video recording capabilities, a 25mm ultra-wide-angle Leica lens and a powerful 8x optical zoom - giving consumers a wide-range of shooting options, yet in a slim body that is small enough to fit in a pocket or small purse. New to the ZR-Series this year, Panasonic also introduces Intelligent Zoom, which extends the Lumix ZR3’s zoom to an impressive 10x. The Panasonic DMC-ZR3’s incredible 8x optical zoom is not found on many conventional point-and-shoot cameras, especially ones that are approximately 1-inch thick. With a powerful zoom, users will be thrilled with the close-up shots they are able to take.

Since that time, the total show has increased by a factor 10. This year's CES show will again take place in Las Vegas, as usual, where visitors are welcomed from January 7 to January 10. The CES event appears to become more important every year. It is the first major world event where more than 2,200 CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) members are able to display their involvement in relation to development, manufacturing, distribution and integration of consumer electronic products such as audio, photo, video, mobile communication, and accessories. The CES 2010 starts off a brand-new year, offering a peek of what we can expect in the upcoming season regarding new products and services.
