Casio GPS camera

CES report

During my visit at the CES 2010 Show in Las Vegas, I nearly drowned in the enormous amount of digital camera introductions, compact cameras that is. I can't remember the last time such a huge amount was introduced during the Consumer Electronic Show; 48 so far and still counting. In addition, we spotted a number of prototype cameras, most of which were showcased behind closed doors, although some, such as a prototype Casio camera, could be seen on the show floor. It is a prototype Casio EXILIM camera with built-in GPS function. Granted, not particularly special, however, at this time we can still count the number of GPS cameras on one hand.

The Casio GPS camera features a white housing and has a fairly large size. Even for a modest megazoom camera, the Casio EXILIM GPS prototype camera has been equipped with a 10x optical zoom lens, providing a 24-240 mm range. The resolution of 12.1 Megapixels is also quite modest, yet still more than enough to get a good enlargement.

According to the Casio employees, Casio uses the feedback from the visitors to process and complete this camera prototype, which means we might just get to see a new Casio EXILIM camera with built-in GPS functionality soon.
