LG Philips high resolution paper display

LG Philips LCD, a leading innovator of thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) technology, announced that it will debut the world's highest resolution 14.3-inch flexible color E-paper display at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2008. The 14.3-inch E-paper display, which is equivalent in size to an A4 sheet of paper, represents a significant improvement over its predecessors with a never before seen resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels, and the ability to display 16.7 million colors, making it perfect for use in high end multimedia applications. These displays are extremely energy efficient, only using power when the image changes. Additionally, the displays are extremely thin, at less than 300 micrometers.

CES 2008 goes green

The CEA announced that CES 2008 is taking unprecedented steps to "go green" by reducing its carbon footprint and with the use of sustainable and energy efficient practices. Produced by CEA, the CES 2008, the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, will run January 7-10, 2008, in Las Vegas, Nevada. The CES 2008 will feature the hottest product debuts from 2,700 exhibitors, covering more than 30 product areas, including the latest in content, wireless, digital imaging, mobile electronics, home theater and audio. “As the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer technology, we are also the first tradeshow of our size to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Gary Shapiro, CEA’s president and CEO.

CES 2008 keynote

The CEA announced that top executives from Microsoft, Panasonic and Intel will deliver keynote addresses at the 2008 International CES. The 2008 International CES is the world’s largest tradeshow for consumer. Bill Gates, Chairman, Microsoft Corp., will deliver a pre-show keynote address on Sunday, January 6, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. Toshihiro Sakamoto, president, Panasonic AVC Networks Company, will kick off the 2008 International CES at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, January 7 with an opening keynote, immediately following a State of the Industry Address by Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of CEA. Paul Otellini, CEO, Intel Corp. will round out day one with a keynote address at 4:30 p.m., Monday afternoon.

Leica Camera AG, Solms is now inviting entries for its next international “Leica Oskar Barnack Award“ (deadline January 31, 2008) and “Leica European Publishers Award for Photography” (deadline March 21, 2008) competitions for professional photographers. The entry forms can be downloaded as pdf files at the Leica website in the Culture section. The annual Leica Oskar Barnack Award is given to the photographer whose sure powers of observation most vividly express man's relationship to his environment in a single photograph or photo story consisting of minimum 8 up to 12 pictures.
