As the leader in the high-definition camcorder category, Sony is further expanding the industry with the introduction of a new HD camcorder model. The Sony HDR-UX20 DVD camcorder is based on AVCHD technology and feature full 1920 x 1080 high-definition recording for outstanding clarity and detail. The Sony UX20 camcorder delivers the highest HD resolution available without sacrificing recording times. The Sony HDR-UX20 features a new high-profile encoding system to optimize encoding efficiency. And, because the Sony HDR UX20 is based on the industry-standard MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video codec, the camcorder enters the market compatible with many third-party editing suites.

Sony expects to shake up the camcorder industry with the introduction of its 2008 line of DVD Handycam camcorders featuring hybrid and hybrid-plus movie recording. “People have been drawn to the DVD category because they are so easy to use,” said Kelly Davis, director of camcorder marketing at Sony Electronics. “Our 2008 line offers greater convenience through multiple recording options so you don’t have to worry about running out of media or missing a moment.” All 2008 DVD models include a new built-in zoom microphone. When you zoom in on a subject, the audio also zooms in for clearer sound recordings. The DCR-DVD710 model also delivers Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround that delivers a life-like audio experience.

The new Sony DCR-DVD910 camcorder will be available in March for about $650.

The Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, has been held annually for over 40 years now. The first CES took place in New York City in 1967 featuring 200 exhibitors and 17,500 visitors. Since that time, the total show has increased by a factor 10. This year's CES show will again take place in Las Vegas, as usual, where visitors are welcomed from January 7 to January 10. The CES event appears to become more important every year. It is the first major world event where more than 2,200 CEA (Consumer Electronics Association) members are able to display their involvement in relation to development, manufacturing, distribution and integration of consumer electronic products such as audio, photo, video, mobile communication, and accessories. The CES 2010 starts off a brand-new year, offering a peek of what we can expect in the upcoming season regarding new products and services.
