Apple introduces iPad, a revolutionary device for browsing the web, reading and sending email, enjoying photos, watching videos, listening to music, playing games, reading e-books and much more. Apple iPad’s responsive high-resolution Multi-Touch display lets users physically interact with applications and content. Apple iPad is just 0.5 inches thick and weighs just 1.5 pounds thinner and lighter than any laptop or netbook. Apple iPad includes 12 new innovative apps designed especially for the iPad, and will run almost all of the over 140,000 apps in the App Store. Apple iPad will be available in late March starting at the breakthrough price of just $499.

Seagate unveils the Black Armor PS110 USB 3.0 portable external hard drive performance kit for netbooks. Demonstrating its industry leadership in delivering advanced and easy-to-use storage solutions, this all-in-one USB 3.0 toolkit packages a 500GB 7200RPM 2.5 inch hard drive, power cable and PC express card, to deliver speeds up to three times faster than its USB 2.0 predecessor, making it one of the fastest portable hard drives available. “As we continue to amass vast libraries of HD photos, movies, & music, the storage needs of households are forecast to grow more than ten times between 2009 & 2013, and the average storage requirements will exceed a terabyte by 2013”, said Kurt Schreff, analyst of Parks Associates.

Smartbook tablet

Freescale Semiconductor has unveiled the future of the smartbook category with a tablet reference design featuring a 7-inch touch screen with up to four times the viewing area of a typical smartphone and based on a form factor that is approximately one-third the size and volume of today’s typical netbook. The solution is intended to enable a second generation of smartbook products with prices less than $200 and featuring form factors that fully leverage the power, performance and functionality advantages of advanced ARM processor technology. It is designed to provide instant-on functionality, persistent connectivity and all-day battery life. The tablet will be demonstrated at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show.
